Things To Do Today
Time is running out! Make your reservations for the St. Louis Water Gardening Society's annual banquet NOW. It will be at the Jewel Box in Forest Park on Tuesday, August 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.!

The theme for the evening is "A Night in the Tropics". We have speaker Chris Kelley of Cottage Gardens presenting a slide show on tropical plants, very entertaining music to put you in the island mood by Steely Pan, a scrumptious dinner catered by Pasta House Company and special award presentations to honor members of the society. This is one event you will not want to miss! You will also be able to stroll among the lily pools to see day and night blooming tropicals put on their show and hopefully snag one of the attendance prizes given at the end of the evening.

Auction Includes Bidding Battles and Bargains
Just about 'everything under the sun' was at the auction. Jim and Pat set a brisk pace and everyone enjoyed the good-natured bidding battles. At the end, just about everyone left with treasures and bargains. Some of the more unique items were flamingoes, a copper tabletop fountain, a young girl bronze statue, a hand-painted mailbox, quilted picture frames, water lily tapestries, a metal cattail sculpture, a floating alligator head, an automatic fish feeder, crazy pots, and dwarf banana plants. Thanks to our generous retailers for their contributions and to all who donated and participated.

Pond-O-Rama 2008
What a terrific tour! Water features are getting better every year. We had a good turnout and the weather was pleasant despite a few brief showers. Photos of each pond on the 2008 tour are now available from the Pond-O-Rama web page. Note that they are listed alphabetically except that the vertical photos are grouped together at the bottom of the page.

Pond of the Month: August
Harold Pohl transformed an unexciting hillside view into one with streams full of waterfalls and a mill, with the water falling into a pond containing lilies and fish. It attracted wildlife too!

2007 Service Award Recipients

News and Notes
- Take a peek at the final list of nominees for Service Awards. You could be on it!
- At its July meeting, the board decided two awards weren't enough. We will annually recognize one outstanding person in each of three specific areas - Jewel Box volunteers, Pond-O-Rama committee and new members. These will be announced at the banquet.
- Read Alice's 2008 Pond-O-Rama wrap-up. (She wouldn't tell you what a terrific job she did, so I added that.)
- Members: Does your pond look terrific at night? Contact Pam Jokerst to be on the Tiki tour Saturday evening, September 27.
- Link to the list of items in our Lending Library from the Membership page.

Jewel Box
There was plenty to do for all those who turned out to plant the tropicals in June. We planted the bare-rooted water lilies in all the ponds, retrieved, divided and planted tropicals from the greenhouse, and three hours later, celebrated a job well-done at Imo's. See a few photos.

Cherry Blossom Pond Tour

Sunday was the perfect day for our spring Cherry Blossom Tour with three beautiful Asian-themed ponds. There were lanterns, dragons, azaleas, buddhas, bonsai trees, bamboo, Japanese gardens, koi and even a tea house, and, of course, lots of good fellowship!
